Back to the Drawing Board – Stroop Test

At this stage, we had to improve or redesigned the game since it was not working as initially planned. A stoop test must involve multiple processing; we were half way there but we needed something to push the player to think further. There are Stroop tests online that as we did give you colours test in different colour but, with a difference that you the have to click the correct colour.

This was a great idea to implement to our game. But we decided to scrap the game and create a new one since forcing to fix a broken idea sometimes takes more time and the end product might be not as polished as it was planned.

The question was, how to make this Stroop test interesting and engaging?

We came out we an idea of putting the player on a spaceship (to keep our theme) turret. The story is that the spaceship is cruising trough a dangerous area full of incoming missiles from the enemies. The player must defend the spaceship by destroying the missiles.

Story

You have been recruited to defend our spaceship from enemy missiles, the problem is that there are different type of missiles and selective ammunition must be shot in order to be destroyed.

The turret is equipped with a hacking software that once you lock on a missile it will give you the data on which type of missile you are looking at. There are four type of missiles:

  • Red powder missile

  • Green Flash powder missile

  • Blue Ammonal missile

  • Yellow Armstrong's mixture

Your turret is equipped with the counter measures for each missile and when it hacks into the missiles system, the colour of what type of ammunition you need to shoot will be displayed along with other information regarding the missile.

Unfortunately, the enemy got aware of this situation and updated their missiles software so that when it gets hacked the text of the colour is changed to a different colour.

Currently our programmers are working to solve the issue, but in the meantime, will still need to defend our spaceship. Will you manage to destroy all the missile waves?

The more missiles you destroy the more programmers will manage to scavenge parts and program your turret to give you the correct colour with the correct text. But be careful since the enemy is always on guard and updating their missile software.

Imagining and sketching what the game will look like

To get more immersed, we decided to go for a stereoscopic game using products that are common to everyone. As platform, we chose an android device, this will let us use google cardboard as our VR system and head tracking (which is very cheap compared to other VR systems) whilst still be able to run unity. And a joystick to control and or fire the turret, which if plugged in trough a USB port, android recognise by default.

To be continued ... Currently busy in other assignments and we are not graded on this game so we had to abandoned the project for a while. Hope we get to it soon.
