Citations and References

Lately I was facing a rather confusing situation at my college. Lecturers each year emphasise the use of citations whenever we use information or other type of work from other sources. In my opinion it is very important to do so since you are giving credit to the person that researched or studied on the subject and went through a lot of work in order to share their knowledge.
Last year we were thought how to correctly cite and reference using the Harvard Anglia Ruskin (2017) system which is the only one system our collage use. Keeping those lessons in mind I kept on citing and referencing in the same style all through this year.
But what was happening this year, is that when I was handing in assignments, almost every lecturer told me a different version of how I should cite. At first I was thinking that maybe I forgot some stuff and was making mistakes throughout. Luckily enough, this year we also have an English lecturer, so I decided to make some research to confirm that what I was citing is in fact correct and back it up from our lecturer.
The first thing I did was to look in the official Harvard Anglia Ruskin University (2017) web site citing guide which can be found Here.
After reading and analysing the problems I was having in citing and confirming the correct style with the web site, I corresponded via email with my English lecturer. He was very kind in replying and taking interested in my query, and after a few emails he confirmed that the style I was using was in fact correct.
Lecturers have a lot on their mind and I am not pretending that they know all and everything. Also, each and every one is specialised on their subject, while English is continuously updated thus probably resulting to be difficult to keep track of all he changes including their main subject. everyone is human and makes mistakes, yet now I can confidently keep on citing the way I am, without any fear of failing a subject, since I can back it up with research and references that the style is actually correct.
